- Quality Measurement of Directory Services
(11:45-12:15)
The quality of many products and services improve over time. Voice
telecommunications service, voice recognition, directory assistance, and
Internet directories are all examples of this pattern. Two major
factors that have affected the directory market over the past few years have
been deregulation and automation. This special address will look at
measurement of directory service quality, and the ways in which deregulation

Geographical Expansion: France
(3:00-4:30)
France, with a population of 60 million
people, is in throes of revising its directory markets. While there are a
many positive aspects of deregulation of the directory market in other
countries, there are a number of negative aspects as well. France has had
the advantage of being able to look at experiences in other countries as it
has developed and implemented its deregulatory process. This session will
focus on the status and opportunities this revision provides.

- Service
Expansion: Speech recognition, location based services, attendant-backed
services, and more! Section A
(9:05-10:30)
Many new capabilities are being introduced that expand the traditional DQ
product offerings. Speech recognition offers cost reduction of basic service
and allows the introduction of enhanced services at lower costs and prices.
The steady growth of mobile subscribers—in many countries today, there are
more mobile subscribers than fixed subscribers—means that directory
providers are developing and offering services tailored to mobile users.
These services include location based services (LBS), category search
services, access to enhanced services, access to private information
sources, attendant-backed services, and more. This session will explore
opportunities in this area.

Over the past few years, a great deal of interest has been focused on the UK
directory market as new regulations dramatically altered the competitive
landscape. Now, a year and a half since the elimination of the old 192
dialing code, BT has made significant adjustments. This special address will
review BT’s competitive reactions.
