Competition in the Directory Market-What, Where, Who, When, How?
-
Days 1-2 (Monday and Tuesday, all day)
The first two days of this conference are
designed for firms that consider themselves clearly “in” the directory
business. During these two days, we will attempt to address the critical
issues facing this industry, including regulations, convergence, and
technology. In recognition of the dramatic changes underway, these two
days will provide perspectives from a broad range of key participants.
Monday:
-
Introductory Remarks (9:00-9:15)
"Disruptive" technologies and
regulations causing dramatic changes in the directory business demand
that participants radically alter their behaviors. This introduction
will lay the groundwork for the material covered by the conference.
-
European Market Overview: The BIG Picture
(9:15-10:15)
Analysys Ltd. has just completed a report
for the European Commission (EC) that reviews the directory services
market throughout the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA).
In this session, the author of the report and a representative from the
EC will present the findings and their implications.
-
Executive Panel
(10:45-12:00)
Talented and creative business leaders
are driving the changes underway in the directory market. This
session will offer the opportunity to listen to a number of key leaders
share their insights into what the industry offers and to ask questions
about their perspectives.
-
Regulatory Developments: UK, Europe, and Beyond
(13:30-14:45)
Re-regulation is occurring across
industries and across geographic boundaries in large part due to the
conviction that market-driven competitive markets represent the best
policy. This module will detail the current regulations in the UK and
other parts of Europe, highlighting the differences in environments.
-
International Associations in the Directory Market
(15:15-16:15)
Directory Inquiry and Directory Publishing have traditionally
represented two distinct markets within the directory services umbrella.
With the changes underway throughout the globe, these barriers are being
challenged and opportunities for integrated directories are arising that
previously did not exist. In this session, leaders from directory
associations will discuss what their respective associations offer to
the converging industry.
-
Closing Remarks (16:15-16:30)
Reception Sponsored by Whitaker Associates
(17:00-18:30)
Tuesday:
-

New Services and Capabilities
With many of the regulatory barriers
being removed from the market, service providers are utilizing the new
technologies available today to offer the best and most profitable
service they can. The following two sessions will address a variety of
new capabilities.
Session H1: Voice Recognition and Automation
(9:15-10:15)
Session H2: The Next Generation
(10:15-12:00)
-
Enhanced Data Content
(13:15-14:45)
Carrier-collected data remains unrivaled
as the highest quality source for basic subscriber information. Yet
problems often arise because of difficulties obtaining subscriber
information from multiple carriers, and because wireless subscriber
information is often totally unavailable. Beyond basic subscriber
information, enhanced content, including yellow page information, cinema
listings, and more, is needed to satisfy growing customer needs. This
session will focus on who has the data, how good is it, and how can you
use it to your best interest.
-
Case Studies
(15:15-16:45)
This module will provide more
detailed focus on services that have been introduced and the response to
those services.
-
Closing Remarks
(16:45-17:00)
-
Day 3 (Wednesday Morning)
The first two days of this conference are
designed for firms that consider themselves clearly "in" the directory
business. This half-day session on the third day expands the audience to
include firms that are not only "in" the directory business but are also
users of directory services--corporations, advertisers, carriers, and
consumers. Sponsors will have the opportunity to display and discuss
their capabilities.

established by the Telecommunications Act of 1984 to advise Oftel's
